Fourth graders integrate text from multiple sources, search for the main idea and supporting details, and hone their gaining proficiency as readers and meaning- makers.
Multiple Points of View
Fourth graders spend time analyzing the same account from multiple points of view. Recently students studied 'Explorers Then' with 'Explorers Now.' Similarities and differences were explored and compared with time built in for lots of small group discussions and interactions with the text.
Getting to Know You
Our Literacy Team believes in getting to know the unique qualities and strengths of each of our students. To that end we spend time asking questions to allow each one to shine. 🌟
Facilitators of Learning
Our Literacy Team believes in facilitating the learning experiences... and then allowing students to take the lead.
Main Idea/Supporting Details
Students focus on finding the main idea as they approach more complex text. Using a graphic organizer of an umbrella (main idea) and 3 raindrops (supporting details) is a successful technique we have used with our students. Allowing time for students to discuss their ideas with a partner allows them to come to a mutual conclusion.
Our Literacy Students ❤️
Bringing Literacy to Life
Interactive and authentic literacy practices are things we strive for at NVES. We take full advantage of bringing literacy to life each day! Here are students acting out the process of coal being made in nature based on a text read during small group instruction.
Eager Learners
Our students come to us each day ready to take a leap of faith that each one will learn and grow and become a more capable reader. We take our mandate seriously: to promote a love of learning AND literacy.
