THIRD GRADE: READING TO LEARN
Third graders enter into the world of reading to learn. They have a foundation of strong literacy skills built from kindergarten to 2nd grade, and now will use that foundation to delve into the world of information. It's an exciting time!
Daily 30 minute lessons four times a week focus on incorporating thinking strategies with grade level content and standards to enhance comprehension of both literary and non-fiction texts.
The Giving Tree
Reading the 'Giving Tree' under our own giving tree allows us to bring texts to life! Understanding the text from multiple perspectives is also a literacy skill students will need from now through college.
Textual Evidence
Supporting our opinions with evidence from the text is supporting students as strong readers and thinkers.
Giving Thanks
Strong teacher-student relationships are developed as lessons are presented in small group instruction. Students begin to see their unique qualities and strengths and begin to blossom during their time attending Literacy Group. Learning is an enjoyable experience for all! 💛
Collaboration
21st century skills focus on collaboration to present and support ones ideas, and to build upon others' ideas. Our Literacy Team spends time listening to each student, as well as facilitates opportunities for each student to listen to each other.

Grade-level Intervention
Our Literacy Team also participates with the NVES 3rd grade team to provide grade-level intervention in the area of systematic phonics instruction using the research-based '95% Group' program.
